“Card Experiment is delighted to present our new mythology series, this is going to be part 1 in the series, the Yaksha Playing Cards (Oni & Hannya). We continue to translate and transform the traditional Japanese tattoo art form of Wabori into playing card style. Yaksha Playing Cards revolves around the intricate and colourful visual elements from mythology & folktale.

🪐 Yaksha are regularly represented in Japanese popular culture including appearances in anime and manga. The Hannya mask represents souls that have become demons because of obsession or envy. We scoured many different sources of folktales, stories and myths about the Yaksha and selected a few well-known ones as sources of inspiration for the characters in the court cards.

🪐 The tuck cases of the Craft deck will be letterpressed and foiled with our regular collaborator. Our collaboration has been very successful in producing the exquisite tuck cases in many of our previous projects, including the most recent Goketsu & Densho Playing Cards. We maintain regular and close correspondence in between projects to understand and optimize each other processes and we are confident of the timeliness and quality of the tuck cases. The tuck case will be letterpressed and foil stamped on premium paper.

Printed on Black core German casino stock with embossed cardistry finish by our partner printing facility in China that also printed our Dream Deja Vu deck.

🪐 The Yaksha Go deck is domino-sized deck, lightweight and is designed for travel use. The stripe-like dimensions was adapted to spread out the cards in confined spaces. Gold hot foiled stamped on tuckcase. A truly collectible deck for the Yaksha collection.
