🌟 The Italian city of Florence needs no presentation: it is a synonym for art, history and timeless beauty. Passione Playing Cards is proud to present to you Florentia, the project of custom playing cards celebrating the birthplace of the Renaissance – passionately designed by Elettra Deganello.

🌟 Florentia Player’s Edition is the newest addition to the Florentia Project: designed for everyday use, sports semi-custom court cards and represents the last incarnation of the Florentia concept devised by Elettra Deganello since the beginning.

🌟 The courts have been designed by Giordano Loddo and are a variation of the “standard” Passione Playing Cart courts, of course adapted to match the theme and the style.

🌟 Florentia Antica (“antica” means ‘ancient’ in Italian) and Florentia Nova(“nova” translates to ‘new’) represent two different visions on the same concept: to overwhelm collectors and playing cards lovers with a notable abundance of breathtaking art, history and beauty… just like the city of Florence does with its visitors.

🌟 Elettra Deganello, the author, explains the two decks this way: “Florentia Antica represents a classic and balanced vision of beauty, in which architecture and rationality play a predominant role.”

🌟 The main element of the back design is the stylized rose window of Florence Cathedral, S.M. Del Fiore. Tangled decorations balance the rationality of the geometric shapes and stylized architectural elements complete the composition.

🌟 “Florentia Nova instead was born as a free and dynamic artistic expression, without constraints or fear of the contrasts between ancient (or classical) and modern.”

🌟 The back design combines a clean geometric basis with dynamic elements. Its beating heart is the coat of arms of the Medici family, which is supported by two cherubs and surrounded both by a dancing ribbon and a laurel leaves frame.

🌟 The Jokers of Florentia Antica are Giotto, one of the most famous Italian painters and architects (legend says he was able to draw a perfect circle by hand) and the “Marzocco”, the heraldic lion and symbol of the city of Florence.

🌟 The Jokers of Florentia Nova are Leonardo Da Vinci – he needs no introduction: a 360° genius in many fields – and the “Porcellino” (Italian “piglet”). This figure is the main subject of THE Florence fountain par excellence, which is linked to good fortune according to a special popular tradition that will be soon presented in our project updates.

🌟 The court cards of Florentia Antica and Florentia Nova are all different… and definitely full of surprises.

🌟 It has become a tradition for Passione Playing Cards to produce a luxury double-deck tuck case, shaped like a book, which is a work of art in its own. Florentia Aeterna will hold both Florentia Antica and Florentia Nova cards together in a limited, hand-numbered edition.

🌟 The Florentia Aeterna (eternal, timeless) tuck case is the evolution of Acheronte and Pinocchio double boxes and will be printed by Archivio Tipografico in Italy on very special stock. Whoever has acquired one of our previous double boxes already knows what to expect (top quality!)

🌟 Florentia Aeterna will be printed on cotton paper with gold foil and hot impression. The limited-edition tuck box will be hand-made in Italy by letterpress experts.

🌟 The two decks are doubly protected: first with a wide lid that “closes the book” and then with two individual flaps. The outer lid of the Florentia Aeterna double-deck reveals the individual illustrated flaps. The double tuck case opens like a book and shows a technical drawing inspired by Santa Maria del Fiore.

🌟 Florentia Antica represents a classical and elegant vision of Florence. Touches of gold enrich the detailed black and white illustrations.

🌟 Depicted in Florentia Antica, you can find important historical figures from Florence; as concerns the all custom aces, they represent some of the most iconic sculptures and monuments that you’d admire when visiting Florence – especially the so-called ‘Loggia dei Lanzi’.

🌟 Florentia Nova somehow represents the blooming of the Renaissance: innovation, dynamism, and freshness are the keywords. Unexpected neon touches add a modern look to the cards.

🌟 Depicted in Florentia Nova you can find important historical figures from Florence; as concerns the all custom aces, they represent some of the most iconic sculptures and monuments that you’d remember after visiting the Italian city.

🌟 Visual Designer, Illustrator
Elettra Deganello is an Italian designer and entrepreneur. Along with Maurizio Toccafondi she founded :[creative]studio, a design agency based in Tuscany, and has collaborated since the beginning with Passione Playing Cards. She is also the author of Pinocchio Playing Cards, another awesome and successful playing card project.

🌟 Florentia Player’s Edition will be printed by USPCC (makers of the world-renowned Bicycle® playing cards) on Air-Cushion finish. You may have seen Air-Cushion mentioned as Cambric, Linen, Magic or Embossed, but they are all terms used by USPCC to identify the same finish.

🌟 Passione is a brand of custom playing cards, that aims to bring Italian design and Italian culture into the world of custom playing cards, to promote the culture of custom playing cards, and to be a reference for the cardistry movement in Italy.
