The Orbit Deck began as a seed many, many years ago. I told myself that once I was in magic for a decade then I’d make a deck of cards because only then will I have a full grasp on what designs are timeless and which ones are just trends. This was a lesson only time could tell. I also had plenty of time to think of a design and let it tattoo itself to my psyche.
The Designer of the deck is Alex Romanowsky. The Buck twins were the ones who found him some years back and I was the one who contacted him. His work is brilliant and detailed. His first rendition of the Orbit Deck was a perfect display of his depth but I wanted it simpler. After about 7 or 8 renditions we came to this final design. The deck was designed with the thought of making it look bold and stationary while the card is spinning. I have always loved the look of this while performing a pirouette. It looks mesmerizing. Every micro inch of this deck has been thought of to the fullest extent.
At first I wanted the borders super thin but then I realized that while performing sleight of hand, this could create a problem. The borders are just slightly thinner than standard bicycles. I wanted this deck to be beautiful while still maintaining functionality. I thought about redesigning all the number and face cards but then I realized people wouldn’t stop talking about / thinking of the faces if they were too abnormal. This would create a distraction and make them think the deck is a trick deck. So I figured I would keep the classic bicycle faces. This is something the layman are familiar with and is an ode to nostalgia. An ode to my beginning.
The first deck given to me at the age of 19 when I started magic was a blue Bicycle deck. Poetically my first deck ever created is going to be blue. I chose blue because it reminds me of me. Red demands attention while blue is more subtle. Don’t get me wrong, I love red but I think for my first deck it should be blue. I think blue is more calm and wise. Which is what I aspire to be in my performances. Blue relaxes the eye and gives a very non threatening approach. This is what I always want while performing magic for people. For their guards to be down. With all this functionality it’s easy to forget that flourishers will have fun with this deck as well. The bold lines, strong center circle, and overall feel will be sure to be as top notch as it gets.
If the Orbit Deck reaches it’s mark of 10 thousand dollars this will prompt me to want to make more decks to come as time progresses. I’d love for you to own the first prints of the Orbit deck. Nothing would make me happier than knowing my deck is out there getting to tag along in your daily life. The cards themselves will be distributed through Art of Play which means your order will receive the care and quality it deserves. Dan and Dave Buck are world class gentlemen and I wouldn’t feel comfortable having my cards sent out from anywhere else.

If you’re wondering where the money will go, most of it will go into printing and distributing. The left over will be going towards more camera equipment, overall improvement to the site, and beyond. The beyond part is what I want you to stick around to find out about. For many years I performed magic for free, so even if I make just enough to print the decks and pay for distribution, I’ll be content. This project is absolutely nothing without you. I am nothing without my team. You’re all my team. Thank you all in advance. Now lets bring these babies to life!
This June will mark my first decade in magic. I started when I was 19 years old and it all began with a coin matrix routine taught to me by Will Chandler. I was addicted and started attending workshops at the Magic Garage that Will hosted. From there I met my original mentors John Bodine, Brian Hart, Joshua Logan, Theron Schaub, and Ricky Smith. I soaked in as much as I possibly could. Each Friday they would teach me two moves with a deck of cards and if I got good enough at those moves, the following Friday they would teach me two more. I did this for years without stopping or slowing. I wanted to learn as much as I could as fast as I could because I realized I started late in magic.
I turn 29 on Monday. In these past 10 years I have been many places and have learned many things that all revolve in someway around a deck of cards. Whenever things in my life imploded and seemed as if they were happening strategically to break me down and rip apart the fabric of who I am, the cards were always there in my hand as I fought back. The cards felt more like a shield, a shield that I now know was created by me and not the cards. But the cards led me to this understanding so maybe it was them all along. Who knows. The deck has seen every side of me through every high and low. The deck I used to fool David Blaine with the Venus Trap at Magic-Con was also the same brand of cards I left in my grandmother’s casket. I have literally cried all while doing a LePaul spread followed by a card spring, a pressure fan, and a bottom palm.
I have experienced life shaping moments that tested me to see what I was made of. The cards were the primary ingredient to all these life changes and experiences. I have performed magic for a large portion of the humankind spectrum. Kids, senior citizens, teachers, cops, models, exotic dancers, famous magicians, families, strangers, classrooms, giant corporate events, small intimate events, newly weds, newly divorced, the religious, the atheists, the critical thinkers, engineers, geniuses, savants, and thousands…possibly millions of YouTubers along with their family/friends who huddled together to be entertained for a little while.
This deck of cards represents everything I had to go through in order to get where I am now. For years people have been asking me when the Orbit deck will be made. I had multiple names lined up for the deck of cards but none of them materialized. Since it has been called the Orbit deck for years by default, I figured I’d stay with that. The name of the deck that was naturally given throughout the years. Not by me, by you.
This deck represents what can be done when you have decided that giving up is no longer an option. When you have decided that pain is just part of the process and you’ll continue upward and onward regardless of how much it can sometimes hurt to do so. When you realize that this pain eventually starts to feel good because you know its what progress feels like.
I have said before that every deck I hold is the combined soul of every deck held before it. I’d like the Orbit deck to be one of the last decks I ever use and hold because I never want to forget what I’ve been through to get here. This is the Orbit deck, through my eyes. And now through yours. Thank you.
