🪐 The details in this Kickstarter project are so mesmerising, strongly recommend that you pop over to the page.

🪐 Pinocchio Vermilion was created as part of a special project retracing the most pivotal moments in Carlo Collodi’s acclaimed The Adventures of Pinocchio.

🪐 Featuring a dominant red hue and ominous back design, the Pinocchio Vermilion Playing Cards focus on the evil character of Mangiafuoco (which translates literally from Italian to mean “Fire-Eater”).

🪐 Centuries ago there lived– “A king!” my little readers will say immediately. “No, children; you are mistaken. Once upon a time there was a piece of wood.”
That’s the beginning of one of the most famous children’s novel in history, written by Carlo Collodi (nom de plume of Carlo Lorenzini, born in Florence, on the 24th of November, 1826) and translated into 240 different languages.

🪐 Passione Playing Cards is proud to present to you the debut of Elettra Deganello in the world of playing cards, with a project retracing the story of Pinocchio in both its joyful and dark moments.

🪐 Pinocchio Sapphire deck: 56 cards, printed by USPCC with metallic inks, foiled tuck cases on colored paper by Gambler’s Warehouse. All custom faces.

🪐 Pinocchio Vermilion deck: 56 cards, printed by USPCC with metallic inks, foiled tuck cases on colored paper by Gambler’s Warehouse. All custom faces (100% different from Sapphire)

🪐 All decks will be printed by USPCC with metallic inks both on the back and the front of the cards. All of the illustrations in the two decks are different. Red suits feature gold ink accents, while black suits silver accents. In Pinocchio Vermilion the red hearts and diamonds are the same shade as an original poker deck, while in Pinocchio Sapphire the typical shading of hearts and diamonds has been replaced with a stunning blue.

🪐 This work has been endorsed by the National Carlo Collodi Foundation: the Italian institution that officially takes care of the legacy of Pinocchio. Special extra cards dedicated to the National Carlo Collodi Foundation

🪐 And now my friends, let’s take this journey together in the magical world of Pinocchio.
“The puppets recognize Pinocchio, but Fire-Eater comes out and Pinocchio risks coming to a bad end.” The hearts of Pinocchio Vermilion are:

K – Fire-Eater is the red-eyed and black-bearded director of the Great Marionette Theatre.
Q – the Burlesque Fairy attends the show, quietly, to follow her beloved Pinocchio.
J – Pulcinella & Harlequin are puppets of the Great Marionette Theatre, friends of Pinocchio.

🪐 “Pinocchio develops donkey’s ears, and then turns into a real donkey to bray.” The diamonds of Pinocchio Vermilion are:

K – the Ringmaster buys Pinocchio, turned into a donkey, to use him as the star of the Circus.
Q – the Lady with the Medallion is recognized by the donkey-Pinocchio in the crowd at the show as his dear Fairy.
J – Candlewick is Pinocchio’s best friend, a rascal like him.

🪐 “Pinocchio is caught by a Farmer, who forces him act as a watchdog.” The clubs of Pinocchio Vermilion are:

K – the Farmer catches Pinocchio in the act of stealing his grapes.
Q – the Good Woman quenches the thirst of Pinocchio after he arrives on the Island of the Busy Bees.
J – the Beech Martens are the thieves caught by Pinocchio, who is granted freedom for his good deeds.

🪐 “The Assassins pursue Pinocchio and hang him from a branch of the big oak tree.” The spades of Pinocchio Vermilion are:

K – the Assassins are the Fox and the Cat in disguise, they try to rob Pinocchio of his gold coins.
Q – the Dead Girl is the fairy that can’t help Pinocchio to escape the Assassins, because…. well, she’s dead.
J – the Grave-diggers are ink-black rabbits carrying a coffin for Pinocchio.

🪐 The giant Dove gives Pinocchio a ride for a thousand kilometers so that he can reach Geppetto, and the Green Fisherman tries to eat Pinocchio mistaking him for a goatfish.

🪐 The Pinocchio Playing Cards project will be printed by USPCC (makers of the world-renowned Bicycle® playing cards) on Air-Cushion finish. You may have seen Air-Cushion mentoned as Cambric, Linen, Magic or Embossed, but they are all terms used by USPCC to identify the same finish. Metallic inks will be used for gold and silver accents. The tuck cases will be printed with pure foil on colored paper by the Gambler’s Warehouse.

🪐Passione is a brand of custom playing cards, aimed to bring Italian design and Italian culture into the world of custom playing cards, to promote the culture of custom playing cards and to be a reference for the cardistry movement in Italy.

🪐 Born in the town of Saptrap, Elettra is raised by the Fairy with Turquoise Hair in her house in the woods. After years and years of unremitting study, her hair starts turning blue… So she decides to play some cockaigne in the famous Land of Toys.

🪐 Getting tired of her boyfriend, the megalomaniac Ringmaster, she organizes a meeting with Fire-Eater on the Island of the Busy Bees to design a deck of playing cards about the super star of his show: Pinocchio. The adventures of Elettra in the Land of Playing Cards will be numerous and exciting, but one thing is sure: you, my dear backers, are going to play a role in this fairy tale.”
