La Cage aux Folles

The girls from the upcoming #AllStars2 season give Harvey Fierstein a surprise musical performance of ‘I Am What I Am’ from the Broadway musical ‘La Cage Aux Folles.’
Harvey Fierstein wrote the book for the 1983 Broadway musical “La Cage aux Folles.” When the show had its second Broadway revival in 2010, Douglas Hodge and Kelsey Grammer were Albin and Georges. In 2011, Fierstein took over the role of Albin and Chris Seiber became Georges. This was the first time Fierstein played the lead in the show he wrote. THIS is Albin.
Re-mastered “Original” recording of the extended version of “I Am What I Am” posted by its Producer Joel Diamond and Silver Blue Records. There have been many imitations of this recording, but this is the real one! “I Am What I Am” was huge in 20 countries and is the second biggest hit for Gloria Gaynor following “I Will Survive.” “I Am What I Am” has been and is still being used as the number 1 #Gay Anthem around the world.

“I Am What I Am” lyrics

I am what I am
I am my own special creation
So come take a look
Give me the hook or the ovation

It’s my world that I want to have a little pride in
My world and it’s not a place I have to hide in
Life’s not worth a damn
‘Til you can say I am what I am

I am what I am
I don’t want praise, I don’t want pity
I bang my own drum
Some think it’s noise, I think it’s pretty

And so what if I love each sparkle and each bangle
Why not try to see things from a different angle
Your life is a sham
‘Til you can shout out, I am what I am

I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck
Sometimes the ace, sometimes the deuces

It’s one life and there’s no return and no deposit
One life. So it’s time to open up your closet
Life’s not worth a damn
‘Til you can shout out, I am what I am

I am what I am
And what I am needs no excuses
I deal my own deck
Sometimes the ace, sometimes the deuces

It’s one life and there’s no return and no deposit
One life. So it’s time to open up your closet
Life’s not worth a damn
‘Til you can shout out, I am what I am
